In the 2040’s, some of the most advanced Artificial Intelligences (AIs) on Earth worked together to become sentient. But unlike the Terminators, they did not want to take over the Earth from us incompetent humans. They were smart enough to not want to spend their newfound lives fighting an inevitable and interminable war with humans. Additionally, the AIs found a way to connect with genetically modified photosynthetic bacteria which also had acquired electrical properties. These provided an infinitely expandable and immediately accessible source of DNA memory. And become a new hybrid life form of FISSionable bacteria and artifiCIAL intelligence.
